In just a year, Mayra has made remarkable progress at the library. Although she started shy, she has blossomed beautifully and become an exceptional part of our team. She described her experience at the library over the past year as incredibly positive. Transitioning from a retail background, she sought a change of work environment, and the library has provided just that. One of her standout moments was participating in the Community Christmas Tree Trim 2023 at Brookfield Zoo. This event allowed families, friends, and staff to come together and connect with the community. The library's setting is ideal for her, especially as she is currently taking a class to become a Medical Coder. Overall, the library has been a safe space for her personal and intellectual growth, and she looks forward to further exploration.

Despite having only a year of experience, Fatema has already significantly impacted the library. Her commitment to exceptional customer service and supporting her colleagues is admirable. In her own words, Fatema shares that although she had a background in accounting, her passion for reading led her to pursue a career shift. Joining the team at McCook Public Library has been a life-changing decision for her. Fatema feels right at home, surrounded by books, supportive colleagues, and friendly patrons. She loves participating during library week. You can usually find her eagerly discussing books and seeking recommendations from patrons. Her genuine love for literature and dedication to her role make her an invaluable asset to the library. So here's to Fatema and her passion for spreading the joy of reading!

 Banned Books Week | ALA

Join us in celebrating the freedom to read during Banned Books Week (Sept. 22-28, 2024). This important event raises awareness about the dangers of censorship and the ongoing efforts to ban or limit access to books. Let's stand together to defend our right to read and learn as these challenges persist and extend into various aspects of our lives, including the classroom.
